Ford's long-running Explorer is a mid-sized SUV that's ideal for hauling the family around town or off-road excursions in the backcountry. Let's take a look at the options for the 2024 Ford Explorer lineup.
Trim Levels of the 2024 Ford Explorer
Base
In its most basic form, the Ford Explorer is motivated by a 300-hp 2.3L inline-4 that pairs with a 10-speed automatic transmission and features auto start/stop technology for improved efficiency. Standard amenities like tri-zone climate control, an 8-way power driver's seat, and a 14-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system make for a premium riding experience.
XLT
The XLT is differentiated from the base Ford Explorer with chrome accenting on the lower body, power heated side mirrors, and roof rails. Though priced only slightly more than the standard model, the XLT brings with it top-notch features that include heated front seats and second-row captain's chairs.
ST-Line
A black mesh grille, 20-inch machined aluminum wheels, and black rear fascia appliquéing are all standard on the ST-Line and aid in achieving a sportier look. Inside, you'll find plush ActiveX leatherette-wrapped seats with red accent stitching and warm ambient lighting as standard amenities.
Timberline
An off-road-focused variant of the Ford Explorer, the Timberline gets standard 4WD, an extra-tough suspension that raises ground clearance to 8.7 inches, and durable skid plates. Its 18-inch wheels have been fitted with all-terrain tires for increased grip.
Limited
Limited models are truly luxurious with their genuine leather upholstery, heated second-row seats, and heated steering wheel. Added convenience comes from the optional Limited High (301A) Equipment Group and its inclusion of power-folding third-row seats, driver memory system, and 110-volt power outlet. This package automatically comes with the Limited Convenience Package.
ST
Along with sporting many of the ST-Line's visual enhancements, the ST model gets a beefier powerplant that comes in the form of a 400-hp 3.0L twin-turbo V6. Its sport-tuned suspension promises sharper, livelier handling. Of course, this trim features steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters, as well. Its cabin includes leather-wrapped seats with the ST logo and silver accent stitching.
King Ranch
The Western-inspired King Ranch shares the same engine as the ST, though it's geared towards providing luxury like the Limited trim. Java-colored Del Rio leather seats with lasso-perforated inserts really help this trim live up to its name. A large 12.3-inch LCD screen in the gauge cluster makes it easy to view a wealth of vehicle information.
Platinum
The Platinum model is at the top of the line when it comes to deluxe features. Its 21-inch aluminum wheels with nickel-accented pockets are the largest in the lineup, plus it's been equipped with illuminated door sill plates and adaptive headlights that turn in the direction you steer in.
